Wildlife, -
The woodland acreage of Lawton Hall is a part of the larger area known as Church Swamp. This area is an exceptional example of an intact swamp forest and mature bottomland woods. The Maryland Department of Natural Resourses has desiginated Church Swamp as an Ecologically Significant Area. These 'old woods' provide habitat for rare forest dwelling birds such as the Scarlet Tanager.

And the Not so Wild

Lawton Hall was one of the last farms in the county to replace oxen and horses with tractors. But that doesn't mean that horses aren't a large part of our farm. While we don't hook them up to plows, we do enjoy their companionship while riding the trails, and marvel at their elegance while they graze and play in our green pasrures.
